British Woman Charged in Singapore for Alleged Fraud Against Son on Netflix Show
Dionne Marie Hanna, the British woman who was featured in a recent Netflix documentary for allegedly swindling her son out of £300,000, is facing legal trouble in Singapore. The 84-year-old has been charged with defrauding three individuals.
After the documentary “Con Mum” aired, detailing how Hanna deceived her son, Graham Hornigold, people in Singapore came forward with reports. She was arrested on March 28 and on April 5, she was charged with five counts of fraud.
Court documents reveal that Hanna misrepresented herself as terminally ill with cancer to Mr. Mohamed Ariffin Mohamed Kawaja Kamaludin while at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Singapore. She falsely claimed she intended to donate large sums to charities.
Additionally, Hanna allegedly lied to Mr. Paiman Supangat in Singapore and France, convincing him she was of royal descent and terminally ill, and tricking him into believing he needed to pay legal fees to receive an inheritance.
The Singapore police reported that victims were asked to transfer money for investment opportunities, believing they would be reimbursed from Hanna’s inheritance. The court ordered her remanded for a week and her next court date is April 11.
If convicted of fraud by false representation, Hanna could face up to 20 years in jail, a fine, or both. The situation serves as a cautionary tale about financial deception and the importance of verifying information before transferring funds.
