Top Actor’s New Series Set to Premiere on Apple TV+
“Number One on the Call Sheet” is a documentary co-directed by Reginald Hudlin and Shola Lynch that dives into the history of Black Hollywood, showcasing both its triumphs and challenges over the years. The film features interviews with a star-studded cast including Will Smith, Whoopi Goldberg, Halle Berry, Dwayne Johnson, Angela Bassett, and Jamie Foxx. Producer Datari Turner shared that the documentary will be released in two parts on Apple TV+, shedding light on the struggles some Black actors faced in maintaining their leading roles after initial success.
Using a mix of talking heads and archival footage, each segment of “Number One on the Call Sheet” weaves a narrative thread through the history of Black Hollywood. Shola Lynch highlighted the progress made in terms of opportunities for Black actors in Hollywood today but also emphasized the work that still needs to be done. She pointed out, “There is no one standard for success, and there is no one route. We each have to figure out our way, and that’s the inspiring part of these stories; it makes you ask that question, ‘What am I doing to be number one on my call sheet?'”
