Alysa Liu Surges Ahead at Figure Skating Worlds with Impressive Performance

Alysa Liu, a former US figure skating champion, made a stunning return to the sport at the world figure skating championships in Boston. Liu, now 19, wowed the crowd with a career-best short program that earned her the lead with 74.58 points. Skating to the song Promise by Laufey and Dan Wilson, Liu’s emotional performance left her teary-eyed and exhilarated.

Despite disappearing from skating at 16, Liu has made a remarkable comeback and is now on the cusp of potentially winning a world title that has eluded American women for nearly two decades. Leading after the short program, she is in a prime position to secure a historic victory for the US.

Liu’s clean triple Lutz-triple toe loop combination, rapid spins, and expressive choreography drew a standing ovation from the audience. Even throwing in a spontaneous cartwheel, Liu’s program was flawless and captivating. Her unexpected lead places her ahead of Japan’s Mone Chiba and fellow American Isabeau Levito, who took second and third place, respectively.

The competition also saw the return of Levito, the reigning world silver medalist, who delivered a stellar performance despite missing four months due to a foot injury. Levito’s Audrey Hepburn-themed program to Henry Mancini’s Moon River was a hit with the audience and showcased her talent and resilience.

While favorites like Kaori Sakamoto of Japan and Amber Glenn of the United States faced unexpected challenges during their programs, the overall competition remains fierce and unpredictable. With the free skate event still to come, it’s anyone’s game to win. Stay tuned for more updates and watch as these talented athletes continue to make history on the ice.
