House of David Now Available on Amazon Prime
The new TV show “House of David” on Amazon Prime Video is giving viewers a fresh take on the classic biblical story of King David. It premiered on Feb. 27 and is already making waves in the Top 10 new shows list.
During Convocation on Feb. 26, actors Michael Iskander and Martyn Ford, along with director Jon Erwin, sat down for an interview with Josh Rutledge, VP of spiritual development. They discussed filming challenges and the show’s inspiring moments, offering insight into the making of “House of David.”
Erwin’s global release of the show has been a hit, with Amazon Prime Video making it accessible to over 250 million viewers in 25 languages. This move has been seen as a significant moment for Christian values in the entertainment industry, according to Erwin.
One of the biggest hurdles in bringing King David’s story to life on screen was finding the right actor to portray the legendary figure. Iskander, who secured the role after a rigorous audition process, shared his experience of preparing and training for the role, which included learning skills like shepherding and playing the lyre.
“House of David” aims to showcase the multifaceted nature of King David, highlighting his talents and struggles. Erwin expressed his admiration for David’s relatable humanity, which is portrayed in the show through his Psalms and life experiences.
Following the onstage interview, students at Liberty University were treated to the premiere of the show’s first episode, generating excitement and cheers among the audience. Additionally, select students had the opportunity to engage in a hands-on experience by reconstructing Goliath’s costume, guided by costume designer Jany Temime.
With new episodes releasing weekly, “House of David” promises to delve deeper into the life of King David, exploring themes of faith, trust, and the divine power at play. For those eager to embark on this journey, the show is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
