Prime Video Expanding Live Sports Offerings in Canada Ahead of NHL TV Rights – Daily Hive

NHL fans in Canada have long relied on CBC, TSN, and Sportsnet for their hockey fix, but there’s a new player in town. Prime Video Canada, owned by Amazon, has secured a two-year deal to stream national Monday night NHL games, adding to its roster of live sports content.

Mark Shopiro, head of Prime Video Canada, shared that bringing the NHL onboard was a natural choice given the country’s love for hockey. The Prime broadcasts offer more than just the game itself—they include unique features like over 50 camera angles, enhanced microphones, and a focus on original content off the ice.

Hosted by Andi Petrillo and featuring play-by-play anchor John Forslund, the Prime broadcasts aim to showcase the human side of the game through storytelling. Additionally, the Faceoff: Inside the NHL docuseries, which offers a behind-the-scenes look at players’ lives, has been a hit with viewers.

Looking ahead, Prime Video’s future plans for NHL rights remain unclear as Rogers and Sportsnet’s current deal expires soon. However, Shopiro hinted at the possibility of more live sports content, possibly including NBA games, in the pipeline.

Given the positive reception to Prime’s NHL broadcasts so far, it’s likely they’ll continue to be a prominent player in Canadian sports broadcasting for years to come. Stay tuned for more exciting developments on the sports streaming front!
