Max to Debut American Sign Language Interpretation of ‘The Last of Us’
Exciting news for fans of “The Last Of Us” and American Sign Language (ASL) users! Max has just announced that season two of the hit show will be available to stream in ASL alongside the regular episodes. This groundbreaking move will start with the season premiere on Sunday, April 13 at 9 PM ET.
This is a big milestone as it’s the first time a streaming platform has offered an ASL version of a major series’ premiere episodes. And, it’s also the debut of HBO’s original programming in ASL on Max. Previously, ASL versions of Warner Bros. films like “Barbie,” “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” and “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice” were available. This step shows Max’s dedication to providing a top-notch and inclusive streaming experience for all its subscribers.
The ASL interpretation of “The Last Of Us” features talented performers Daniel Durant (“Coda”) and Leila Hanaumi, known for her work with organizations like Deaf Austin Theater and ZACH’s “Cinderella.” Hanaumi also directed the ASL version of the show’s first season, which will be ready to stream from Friday, March 31.
To make finding ASL content easier, titles like “The Last Of Us” with ASL will be clearly marked on the Max app, accompanied by key art featuring the sign language symbol.
Naomi Waibel, SVP of Global Product Management at WBD, shared, “We are thrilled to expand our ASL program and debut our first HBO Original series in ASL with ‘The Last of Us.’ This debut brings the show to life in an authentic and fully accessible way for Deaf audiences and is another meaningful step towards our goal of offering an inclusive streaming experience.”
For those unfamiliar, “The Last Of Us” is based on the popular video game franchise developed by Naughty Dog for PlayStation consoles. The series is written and executive produced by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, with extensive support from co-producers and production companies like Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, and others.
Don’t miss out on this groundbreaking moment when ASL meets a critically acclaimed series! Get ready to immerse yourself in the post-apocalyptic world of “The Last Of Us” like never before.
