Batgirl Movie Update: Will Canceled DC Film Be Released After Coyote vs. Acme Save
Warner Bros. might finally be making a move with Coyote vs. Acme by selling the distribution rights to Ketchup Entertainment. The movie, which was put on hold and already completed, was shelved for a $30 million tax write-off.
This isn’t the first time Warner Bros. has made a surprising decision like this. Back in 2022, DC Films and Warner Bros. Discovery announced that there were no plans to release Batgirl, which was intended for HBO Max and set to star Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon and Brendan Fraser as Firefly.
As for the latest update on the unreleased Batgirl movie, according to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, the superhero film is unlikely to ever be released. Unfortunately, sources suggest that it may not see the light of day.
It’s worth noting that Batgirl was still in post-production and had some scenes left to film when the decision was made not to release it. Reports of negative test screenings could have influenced Warner Bros. Discovery’s choice.
Despite the disappointment over Batgirl, fans are now wondering if there’s a glimmer of hope, given the potential release of Coyote vs. Acme in 2026 (although the deal with Ketchup Entertainment is not yet final).
The cast of Batgirl also includes J.K. Simmons as James Gordon, Jacob Scipio as Anthony Bressi, Ivory Aquino as Alysia Yeoh, and Michael Keaton reprising his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Killer Moth was expected to appear as the villain in the film.
