Max removes classic Looney Tunes lineup

Warner Bros. Discovery recently made a big change on its streaming service, Max, by removing the entire lineup of classic Looney Tunes shorts from 1930-1969. The company explained to Deadline that they are shifting their focus to prioritize adult and family programming instead of content for kids.

This decision follows a previous removal of hundreds of Looney Tunes episodes at the end of 2022, which caused some confusion as the company had initially stated that Looney Tunes would continue to be available on Max. However, newer Looney Tunes content, such as Looney Tunes Cartoons released in 2020 and New Looney Tunes from 2015, is still accessible on the platform.

Unfortunately, Max did not respond to The Verge’s request for comment regarding this change. Warner Bros. Discovery has been making significant shifts in its content lineup under the leadership of David Zaslav. In addition to Looney Tunes, the company also ended its deal to stream Sesame Street on Max last year and redirected Cartoon Network’s website to encourage sign-ups for its streaming service. Furthermore, Warner Bros. Discovery decided to scrap its Coyote vs. Acme film featuring John Cena.

Despite these changes, a Looney Tunes spinoff called The Day the Earth Blew Up, which was nearly canceled, made its way to theaters over the weekend thanks to Ketchup Entertainment acquiring the distribution rights from Warner Bros. Discovery. Stay tuned for more updates on the evolving landscape of streaming entertainment.
