Ellen Pompeo Joins Natalia Grace Series Post Grey’s Anatomy
was a big change for Pompeo, who has been a staple on Grey’s Anatomy for over 20 years. In Good American Family, she plays the adoptive mother of Natalia Grace, a character based on a real-life story. The series follows the tale of Natalia, a Ukrainian orphan with dwarfism, who was adopted by an American couple only to be abandoned by them shortly after amid claims that she was actually an adult con artist.
Pompeo, who is also an executive producer on the show, shared that she was drawn to this project because it offered a refreshing departure from her long-running role as Meredith Grey. She admitted that she wasn’t familiar with the real-life case before joining the series and hadn’t seen the documentary on it, The Curious Case of Natalia Grace. However, after reading the script for the first episode, she was captivated by the story and couldn’t wait to dive in. The premiere of Good American Family was a special night for Pompeo, marking a new chapter in her career after two decades on Grey’s Anatomy.
