Season 2 of ‘Severance’ Accumulates Over 3 Billion Streaming Minutes: Nielsen
Apple TV+ has a serious hit on its hands with “Severance” Season 2. According to Nielsen, the streaming drama has racked up over 3 billion streaming minutes since its premiere on January 17.
These impressive numbers are based on the weekly viewership of the show over the five weeks that Season 2 episodes were released. Although “Severance” only recently started appearing on Nielsen’s weekly list of top streaming shows, the data we have now paints a clear picture of the series’ popularity.
During the week of February 10 to 16, which featured the premiere of Episode 5, “Severance” saw its highest streaming numbers at 681 million minutes. This week was a standout, with only one other week during the series’ run hitting over 600 million minutes – the week of January 20, when Episode 2 aired.
Nielsen also reported that during the week of February 10, 60% of the viewership was dedicated to Season 2, while 40% went to Season 1. This split indicates that audiences are either revisiting the series or discovering it for the first time, showing sustained interest over time.
Impressively, “Severance” secured the fifth spot on Nielsen’s list of the Top 10 Streaming Originals during that week in February. This ranking means it outperformed popular titles like Netflix’s “The Recruit,” Hulu’s “Paradise,” and Prime Video’s “Invincible.” Since Season 2 premiered, “Severance” has consistently held a top spot on this list.
While Apple TV+ is notoriously mum about its streaming numbers, Nielsen’s data confirms that “Severance” is making waves in the streaming world. So, it’s safe to say that this eerie dystopian thriller is definitely having a moment.
