Percy Jackson and the Olympians: A Popular Show for All Audience

When season one of Percy Jackson and the Olympians hit Disney+ in December 2023, there were high hopes pinned on it. After fans of the book series felt let down by the previous movie adaptations, the show managed to soar to the top of the Disney+ charts. Now, as the show gears up for the Children’s and Family Emmys with a whopping 16 nominations, co-creator Jonathan E. Steinberg is feeling the love.

In an interview with THR, Steinberg shared, “I think any time you’re in a production like this one, where everybody cares and everybody’s really invested, not just in the work and the material but in each other – it’s a really good group. It’s nice for everybody to feel recognized in that way.”

One burning question – what were the expectations going into the first season and how did they align with audience reception? Steinberg responds, “Expectations is a big word. My goal for the show was for it to resonate with everyone – to be exciting for kids to watch with their parents, for parents to enjoy with their kids, and even for those without kids to unexpectedly get hooked. When we heard from viewers that it had become a family favorite, that was the bullseye we were aiming for.”

With such remarkable success and numerous nominations, Percy Jackson and the Olympians seems to have truly hit the mark with audiences of all ages.
