Netflix Developing Remake of ‘Cujo’ by Stephen King

Netflix has officially greenlit a new movie reboot of Stephen King’s novel Cujo. The remake will be produced by Roy Lee, telling the story of a mother and son battling a rabid dog while trapped in their car. Originally adapted from King’s 1981 novel, Cujo was a lovable St. Bernard turned enemy after a bat bite in the 1983 film.

In the movie, a mother, Donna (played by Dee Wallace), and her son, Tad (played by Danny Pintauro), face off against Cujo in a fight for their lives. King’s novels, like Carrie and many others, have a long history of being adapted for the big screen.

Other popular adaptations of King’s work include The Shining, The Shawshank Redemption, It, and It Chapter Two. Recent adaptations include Lewis Pullman and Alfre Woodard in the horror drama Salem’s Lot, and a Max series about an author returning to his hometown to find it under attack by a monster.

Mike Flanagan has also collaborated with King on adaptations like Life of Chuck, Doctor Sleep, and Gerald’s Game. Lionsgate secured the rights to King’s 1979 novel, The Long Walk, with Francis Lawrence set to direct. King’s extensive catalog of 65 novels and 200 short stories has been widely embraced for film and TV adaptations around the world.
