Hulu CMO Campbell Promoted to President – MediaPost
After Randy Freer stepped down last month, Hulu has promoted its chief marketing officer, Kelly Campbell, to president of the streaming platform. Campbell, who has been with Hulu since July 2017, will now oversee subscriber growth, brand development, content, marketing strategies, research, and viewer experience.
Under Campbell’s leadership, Hulu has seen significant growth, with 30.4 million U.S. subscribers as of early February. This number includes 27.2 million subscribers for Hulu’s video on demand service and 3.2 million for Hulu+Live TV, the platform’s live TV streaming service.
Before joining Hulu, Campbell spent 12 years at Google in key marketing roles at Google Ads and Google Cloud. She will now report to Kevin Mayer, chairman of direct-to-consumer and international at Walt Disney, Hulu’s parent company.
Following Disney’s acquisition of Fox’s businesses, Disney now holds a majority stake in Hulu, having bought out Comcast’s share as well. As part of Disney’s direct-to-consumer strategy, Hulu has been bundled with Disney+ and ESPN+ for a subscription fee of $12.99 per month.
Despite posting a $693 million operating loss in the fourth quarter of 2019, Hulu generated $670 million in advertising revenue and $1.27 billion in subscription fees for the entire year. This information comes from Walt Disney’s yearly 10K filing for 2019.
