Stephen King praises Netflix thriller series as ‘terrific’
If you follow Stephen King on social media, you know he doesn’t hold back when it comes to recommending shows and movies. From praising HBO dramas to giving honest opinions about films, King always keeps it real. Last year, he highlighted some TV shows that are definitely worth a watch. And now, he’s singing the praises of a political thriller on Netflix called “Zero Day.”
In a recent post on Threads, King described the series as “old school, but terrific.” He especially appreciated the Tucker Carlson-type character and the direction by Leslie Linka Glatter. High praise from the master of horror himself!
Netflix has no shortage of political thrillers, but not all of them hit the mark. However, some, like “The Diplomat,” manage to blend political drama with spy thrills and humor in a captivating way. So, does “Zero Day” live up to its hype, or does it fall flat like other forgettable shows in the genre?
The series follows former US president George Mullen, played by Robert De Niro, who comes out of retirement to tackle a cyberattack and disinformation campaigns. As Mullen digs deeper, he uncovers a conspiracy that hits closer to home than he ever imagined. Sounds intriguing, right?
Unfortunately, “Zero Day” falls short in some areas. The series struggles to fully explore Mullen’s complex character, opting for a more simplistic portrayal. Additionally, the disconnect between the bleak events and the characters involved leaves something to be desired. And let’s not forget the series’ lack of a clear political stance, which may leave viewers feeling underwhelmed.
Despite these shortcomings, the star-studded cast gives it their all, but even they can’t save the series from its own flaws. As critic Chris Evangelista points out, “Zero Day” raises important questions but ultimately lacks a strong message.
So, should you give “Zero Day” a watch? It’s up to you. The series is currently available on Netflix, so you can decide for yourself. Think of it as a mix of high stakes drama with a twist of political intrigue. Who knows, you might just find it “terrific” like Stephen King does.
