Amazon Boycott Begins Today: Ring, Twitch, Whole Foods Included
A movement called the People’s Union USA is calling for a week-long boycott of Amazon and its subsidiaries starting today. This isn’t just any boycott–it’s a strategic move to send a message to Amazon about its impact on small businesses, workers, and profits. The goal is to make a dent in Amazon’s sales and show that consumers are paying attention.
The boycott extends beyond just Amazon’s shopping platform. It includes other services like Prime Video, Whole Foods, Zappos, Twitch, Alexa, Audible, Ring, and IMDb, all owned by Amazon or its subsidiaries. So, for those participating, it means unplugging Alexa devices, avoiding Whole Foods, and perhaps missing out on the latest season of Wheel of Time.
But will Amazon feel the impact? With net sales of $638 billion in 2024, Amazon is a massive retail and entertainment giant. The founder of People’s Union USA has a significant social media following, but Amazon has millions of customers worldwide. During a previous one-day boycott, Amazon sales were up 1%, showing minimal impact on the company’s bottom line due to its sheer size and sales volume.
The boycott is part of a series of planned actions, including future boycotts of Nestle, Walmart, and General Mills. These efforts aim to bring attention to consumer concerns and align spending with social, economic, and political goals. While it may not drastically impact Amazon’s profits, the boycotts are sparking discussions and encouraging consumers to think about where they want their money to go.
