Apple TV+ unveils trailer for new surreal family comedy “Government Cheese”
Apple TV+ just dropped the trailer for their upcoming series “Government Cheese,” and it looks like a must-watch! Starring the award-winning David Oyelowo, who is also an executive producer, this comedy is set to premiere globally on April 16, 2025. The show, created by Paul Hunter and Aeysha Carr, will consist of 10 episodes, with the first four episodes being released on the debut day and new episodes rolling out every Wednesday until May 28, 2025.
“Government Cheese” is a surreal family comedy that takes us back to 1969 in the San Fernando Valley. It follows the Chambers family, a quirky and ambitious bunch unbound by reality. When Hampton Chambers, played by Oyelowo, is released from prison, his reunion with his family doesn’t go as smoothly as expected. His wife Astoria, portrayed by Simone Missick, and his sons Einstein and Harrison, played by Evan Ellison and Jahi Di’Allo Winston, have built an unconventional family dynamic during his absence. Hampton’s return shakes things up and throws their world into disarray.
Apart from the stellar cast mentioned earlier, the show also features Jean-Michel Richaud, London Garcia, Djilali Rez-Kallah, Bokeem Woodbine, Jeremy Bobb, Louis Cancelmi, Julien Heron, Louis Ferreira, Thomas Beaudoin, Kyle Mac, John Ortiz, and Adam Beach.
“Government Cheese” is a product of Apple Studios and MACRO Television Studios, and it’s written, executive produced, and co-showrun by Paul Hunter and Aeysha Carr, with Hunter also directing the series. Furthermore, it’s great to know that David Oyelowo, under his Yoruba Saxon banner, serves as an executive producer. Apple TV+ is not just stopping there; they’re also bringing in Charles D. King, Jelani Johnson, and Ali Brown as executive producers from MACRO Television Studios and Ventureland.
Apple TV+ has become known for its top-tier drama, comedy, documentaries, and family entertainment since its 2019 launch. Their original content has been well-received, earning numerous awards and nominations, including the Emmy Award-winning “Ted Lasso” and the Oscar-winning “CODA.”
