Apple TV+ Releases Trailer for New Surrealist Family Comedy ‘Government Cheese’

Apple TV+ recently released the trailer for their upcoming surrealist family comedy series called “Government Cheese,” featuring award-winning actor David Oyelowo. The show is set to premiere globally on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, with the first four episodes launching at once, followed by weekly releases through May 28, 2025.

The plot follows the Chambers family in the whimsical 1969 San Fernando Valley, where they navigate peculiar challenges in pursuit of their seemingly unattainable dreams. When Hampton Chambers (played by Oyelowo) returns from prison to reunite with his family, the dynamics are not what he expected. His wife Astoria (played by Simone Missick) and sons Einstein (played by Evan Ellison) and Harrison (played by Jahi Di’Allo Winston) have created a unique family structure during his absence, leading to chaos upon his return.

The ensemble cast includes talented actors like Jean-Michel Richaud, London Garcia, Djilali Rez-Kallah, Bokeem Woodbine, and many more. This Apple Original series has been developed by creators Paul Hunter and Aeysha Carr, with Hunter also directing the show. Alongside Oyelowo, Hunter, and Carr, the series is produced by Charles D.
