Tiana Disney+ Series Shelved by Walt Disney Animation

Walt Disney Animation Studios has made the tough decision to cancel the Tiana princess series as part of its shift away from creating original longform content for streaming. This move also includes scrapping a previously unannounced feature-length project that was planned for Disney+.

The Tiana series was first announced in December 2020 and aimed to be a musical with Anika Noni Rose returning to voice Tiana, Disney’s first Black princess, from The Princess and the Frog. Unfortunately, despite numerous creative team adjustments, the series faced challenges with production costs and was unable to move forward.

While the Tiana series won’t be happening, The Princess and the Frog still holds a special place in Disney’s lineup. To keep the spirit of the film alive, the studio is working on a shortform special inspired by the movie, which is currently in its early stages of development.

Although we may not be getting the Tiana series we were hoping for, Disney is committed to keeping the magic of Tiana and her story alive for fans. Even though the longform series didn’t work out, we can still look forward to more exciting projects inspired by the beloved Princess and the Frog movie.
