On the same day, NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt announced to network staff that he was stepping down from the show heâs hosted since 2015. Holt shared in a memo to staffers, “As a 20-year-old radio reporter on the police beat chasing breaking news around San Francisco, I could never have imagined my career path would unfold in the way it has. What an amazing ride.”
In the latest SNL episode, Che joked on âThe Weekend Updateâ that a similar fate could be heading his way. Che, who co-anchors the segment with Colin Jost, pointed out the departures of Reid and Holt, quipping, “Well, NBC, only one more to go, baby,” as he pointed to a photo of himself on screen.
Joy Reid joined MSNBC more than ten years ago and Lester Holt has been the face of NBC Nightly News since 2015. Che, who has been a part of SNL since 2014, also worked as co-head writer on the show until 2022.
In the same SNL episode, the cold open featured a parody of the Oval Office meeting with President Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The skit poked fun at the world leaders, with President Trump introducing himself as the “CEO of Gaza hotel” and making comments about Zelensky’s outfit choice.
Additionally, the show took jabs at Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency, with alum Mike Myers portraying the tech mogul.
