Director John Erwin’s Journey to “The House of David”
Director Jon Erwin recently fulfilled a lifelong dream with the premiere of his latest project, “The House of David,” a biblical TV series about King David of The Old Testament, now available on Amazon Prime Video. Erwin’s journey to this moment began when he was just 16 years old, carrying his first video camera to Israel where a visit to King David’s tomb sparked his passion for filmmaking.
After years of honing his craft, Erwin feels that all his previous projects have led him to this monumental story. From “Jesus Revolution” to “American Underdog” and more, Erwin has built a career in faith-based and inspirational entertainment. However, “The House of David” marks his first foray into bringing a biblical tale to life on screen.
Erwin shared that the process of adapting these stories from scripture has been both challenging and rewarding. The series features a talented cast, including Stephan Lang, Michael Iskander, Martyn Ford, Aylet Zurer, and Ali Sulima, all of whom delved into the scriptures to prepare for their roles.
Lang, who plays Samuel in the series, emphasized the importance of immersing himself in the source material and seeking out expert insights to craft his character authentically. Iskander, who portrays David, echoed Lang’s sentiments about delving into scripture to embody his role accurately.
The first three episodes of “The House of David” premiered on Prime on February 27, with new episodes set to release weekly. Erwin hopes that the themes of destiny, overcoming fear, and belief resonate with audiences, inspiring deeper conversations and reflections.
As viewers embark on this epic journey through the Old Testament, Erwin’s dedication to bringing this ultimate Hero’s Journey story to life shines through. The timeless tales of King David and the characters around him come alive on screen, inviting audiences to connect with the source material in a new and compelling way.
