Max Streaming Service Set to Debut in Australia on March 31, Perfect for HBO Fans
Great news for Aussie streamers – HBO Max is finally making its way down under on March 31st! This means we’ll be able to catch the highly-anticipated second season of The Last of Us exclusively on HBO Max starting April 14th.
Warner Bros. Discovery is launching HBO Max with a range of subscription tiers, including premium, standard, and ad-supported options. While the pricing for these tiers hasn’t been revealed yet, it’s exciting to have more choices for our streaming needs.
In addition to HBO Max, Warner Bros. Discovery has also announced a new partnership with Foxtel. Foxtel subscribers with internet-connected iQ3, iQ4, or iQ5 devices will get access to the Basic with Ads Max plan for free. This move signals a growing relationship between WBD and Foxtel in the direct-to-consumer space.
What does this mean for Binge, the current home of HBO content in Australia? While there’s no official statement yet, the term “debut exclusively” used for The Last of Us season 2 hints that future seasons of the show will only be available on HBO Max, not Binge. This could impact Binge’s offerings, as HBO shows have been a major draw for the service.
With big price increases across streaming services in Australia, and the dominance of competitors like Disney Plus and Netflix, it will be interesting to see how Binge responds to the arrival of HBO Max. Whether it’s a shift in pricing, content, or partnerships, the next few months will definitely be intriguing for Aussie streamers.
In the meantime, if you want to catch up on The Last of Us before the second season lands, Binge is still the place to do it. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the exciting launch of HBO Max in Australia on March 31st!
