Evansville-made movie now streaming

People in Evansville have a new movie to check out called “Pears” that was shot entirely in our city. It’s now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video, so you can watch it from the comfort of your own home.

The film follows the story of Perry “Pears” Matthews, a guy who has been trying out different jobs but can’t seem to figure out what he really wants to do with his life. Eventually, he lands on becoming a private eye and goes on a mission to solve the case of his missing brother-in-law.

The movie was created by Ryan McCurdy, a University of Southern Indiana graduate and filmmaker who wanted to showcase Evansville in a unique way. He made sure to include many well-known spots around town like the riverfront, High Score Saloon, Main Phase One, Bayard Park, the Reitz Home, and more.

McCurdy self-funded the project with his wife, operating on a budget of just $3,000. Despite the limited budget, the movie was able to feature a mostly local cast, with nearly every actor having ties to the Tri-State area.

After premiering at the Victory International Film Festival last fall, the movie has now made its way to Amazon Prime Video for everyone to enjoy. McCurdy describes “Pears” as crass, hilarious, goofy, silly, engaging, and fun, so it sounds like a movie that has something for everyone.

So, if you’re looking for a light-hearted comedy with some local flair, be sure to check out “Pears” on Amazon Prime Video. And who knows, maybe we’ll see more of Ryan McCurdy’s work in Evansville in the future.
