Joshua’s Growth Progress in Iowa
Joshua is in for some exciting new developments! City Manager Mike Peacock recently shared updates on the highly anticipated Whataburger, which broke ground in January and is expected to open in late spring or early summer. The new restaurant will save locals from having to wait in line at neighboring cities like Burleson.
But that’s not all! An $80 million mixed-use retail and commercial building is also in the works at Joshua Station, featuring retail shops on the first floor and apartments on the upper levels. Plus, the city is looking forward to welcoming 250 new homes this year, potentially bringing in an extra $4.2 million in property tax revenue.
Despite all this growth, property taxes are projected to stay flat for the next two years. With a sales tax rate of .689, Joshua is right in the middle compared to other nearby cities in Johnson County. The aim is to keep taxes as low as possible while continuing to support the city’s development.
In terms of infrastructure, the city has a five-year capital improvement plan set to wrap up this fiscal year. The Joshua Fire Department is getting a new fire engine and brush truck, the Police Department is adding two patrol vehicles, and Public Works will receive new heavy equipment for road maintenance. Speaking of roads, current projects are focused on Thomas and Main streets.
Downtown Joshua is thriving as well, with local restaurants becoming destination spots for visitors from surrounding areas. And if you’re a fan of live entertainment, keep an eye out for the new sound stage unveiling this spring, funded by hotel and motel tax revenue. It’s equipped with lighting and sound systems, making it a flexible venue for various events.
In addition to these exciting new projects, Joshua City Park is also undergoing some upgrades, including a new playground installation. Despite a few hiccups along the way, like having to redo the playground due to installation issues, the park remains a beloved community space.
Overall, Joshua is on the path to continued growth and improvement, with a focus on enhancing quality of life for residents and visitors alike. Keep an eye out for all these developments coming soon to a neighborhood near you!
