In a recent interview with ComicBook, Marvel Television boss Brad Winderbaum discussed the new direction for the franchise’s TV titles. He emphasized that moving forward, Marvel is prioritizing creating shows that can sustain multiple seasons, akin to traditional television. This marks a significant departure from the previous model, where TV projects were mainly used to set up characters and storylines for future movies.
According to Winderbaum, Marvel is currently working on several projects, but they will only move forward with shows that have the potential to last beyond one season. This means that the studio is taking a more cautious approach to greenlighting new series to ensure their longevity. Unlike the traditional television model that involves shooting pilot episodes to test concepts and cast chemistry, Marvel Television may not follow this practice. Instead, Winderbaum mentioned that they might shoot the first episode of a series in advance to allow for creative changes or pivots if necessary, rather than creating standalone pilot episodes.
The upcoming series “Daredevil: Born Again” has already been ordered for 18 episodes, with the potential for more seasons in the future. As a well-established property with a dedicated fan base, this series will serve as a test to gauge Marvel Television’s approach to other shows going forward.
