MLS and Apple TV+ to Debut Behind-the-Scenes Docuseries from ’24’ Season

The MLS is super excited to share its behind-the-scenes story with fans through the new docuseries “Onside: Major League Soccer,” debuting on Apple TV+ this Friday. The idea for this eight-part series has been in the works for over five years, with Netflix’s “Formula 1: Drive to Survive” producer Paul Martin and Box to Box Films at the helm. As the league kicks off its 30th season this weekend, it’s already seeing remarkable growth. However, this surge in popularity hasn’t quite translated to Apple TV+ just yet.

MLS Commissioner Don Garber revealed that around 1 million viewers watched the league’s 14 games last season, averaging about 71,000 viewers per match. The hope is that Martin’s docuseries will draw in more viewers by offering a peek behind the curtain at the 2024 season. In “Onside,” Martin delves into the world of MLS by spending quality time with players like Galaxy’s Riqui Puig, FC Cincinnati’s Matt Miazga, and Union’s Cavan Sullivan.

To capture the essence of MLS off the field, game footage was provided by MLS and IMG, allowing Martin’s team to focus on the behind-the-scenes action. The league is already thinking about a second series for next winter and will be closely listening to feedback from fans. So, get ready to dive deep into the world of Major League Soccer with “Onside” – it’s guaranteed to be an exciting ride!
