The upcoming Peacock documentary, “Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy,” is set to premiere on Tuesday, Feb. 25. This film delves into the life and final days of the beloved Friends star, Matthew Perry.
Tragically, Perry was discovered unresponsive in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home on October 28, 2023, and was pronounced dead at the age of 54. In December 2023, it was revealed that Perry’s passing was due to an overdose of ketamine. Later, in August 2024, five individuals, including Perry’s personal assistant, two medical professionals, and a Hollywood drug dealer known as “the Ketamine Queen,” were charged in connection with his death.
Directed by Robert Palumbo, “Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy” offers never-before-seen footage and interviews shedding light on Perry’s struggles with addiction and the events leading up to his untimely death. The documentary starts with an emotional playback of the dispatch call made to first responders.
Stars like Matthew Perry, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer skyrocketed to fame through their roles in Friends, which aired from 1994 to 2004 and continues to captivate audiences across generations. Prior to his iconic role as Chandler Bing, Perry appeared in several short-lived comedies, such as “Boys Will Be Boys” in 1987-88 and “Sydney” in 1990. Post-Friends, he starred in shows like “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” in 2006-07, “Go On” in 2012-13, and a revival of “The Odd Couple” from 2015-17. However, it was his portrayal of Chandler Bing that remains Perry’s most enduring legacy.
