Disney+ has just unveiled the cast for an upcoming drama series called “Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes,” set to premiere this Spring. The show will feature a mix of acting veterans and a newcomer, diving into the tragic events surrounding the killing of innocent Brazilian de Menezes in 2005.

The cast includes familiar faces like Conleth Hill from Game of Thrones, Russell Tovey of Years and Years, and Emily Mortimer, known for her role in Paddington in Peru. Joining them is newcomer Edison Alcaide, who will play the role of Jean Charles de Menezes in the series.

The storyline will shed light on how de Menezes was wrongfully identified as a terrorist by London police and delve into the aftermath from different perspectives. The show aims to explore the complexities of memory, accuracy, and distortion in shaping our understanding of truth.

Apart from Alcaide as the lead, the cast also includes notable figures like Daniel Mays, who has been seen in Line of Duty and Des, along with Max Beesley playing assistant commissioner Andy Hayman. The series is penned and executive produced by Jeff Pope (known for Philomena and Stan and Ollie) and is a collaborative effort between Etta Pictures, Pope’s production label, and Kwadjo Dajan’s KDJ Productions.

To add an authentic touch, Jean Charles de Menezes’ parents and other relatives are actively involved as consultants for the series, ensuring a respectful representation of the real-life events. “Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes” is anticipated to be available on Disney+ in the coming Spring.

According to Jeff Pope, the series carries immense significance in telling this compelling story, and the talented cast assembled will help in portraying the events leading to the tragic shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes with depth and authenticity.
