Apple TV+ releases gritty crime drama trailer for Dope Thief

Apple TV+ is set to release a new crime drama called Dope Thief in March, and based on the trailer, it looks seriously cool. What’s even more exciting is that the iconic filmmaker, Sir Ridley Scott, is not just producing the series, but also directing the first episode. The show will follow two friends from Philly who, besides engaging in criminal activities, also pretend to be DEA agents to pull off heists. However, their luck goes south when they accidentally stumble upon a massive hidden narcotics corridor. The series is based on Dennis Tafoya’s book and stars Brian Tyree Henry and Wagner Moura.

If the trailer is any indication, Apple has poured a ton of resources into making Dope Thief one of their top shows. With Ridley Scott’s experienced eye behind the camera, along with the writing talent of Peter Craig, known for his work on The Town, the show promises to be top-notch. Apple is clearly aiming for Dope Thief to be a standout on Apple TV+, blurring the lines between cops and criminals, and drawing comparisons to the acclaimed series, The Wire.

Although Dope Thief may not dethrone The Wire as the best TV show ever, it’s definitely generating buzz. The show will debut globally on March 14, with new episodes airing every Friday until April 25. So if you’re a fan of gritty crime dramas with unexpected twists, Dope Thief on Apple TV+ might just be your next binge-worthy show.
