YouTube TV and Paramount Strike Deal to Preserve Channels on Streaming Platform

YouTube TV has successfully hammered out a deal with Paramount to ensure that fan-favorite channels like CBS, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, and MTV will remain on the streaming platform. The agreement comes after a tense period of negotiations that briefly left the future of these beloved channels up in the air.

In a statement released Saturday night, YouTube TV expressed their excitement, stating, “We’re happy to share that we’ve reached a deal to continue carrying Paramount channels, including CBS, CBS Sports, Nickelodeon and more.” This means that viewers can expect to enjoy a wide range of content, with YouTube TV offering 100+ channels and additional options like Paramount+ with SHOWTIME.

Acknowledging the patience of their subscribers, YouTube praised their dedicated viewers as negotiations played out. The company assured users that their feedback and loyalty were taken into consideration throughout the process, ultimately leading to a positive outcome for all parties involved.

YouTube TV, a subscription-based offshoot of the popular video platform, has been providing television streaming services since 2017. This recent contract dispute with Paramount centered around carriage fees, which are the costs that TV providers pay broadcasters for the rights to air their content. While disagreements over these fees have become more common in recent years, YouTube TV was able to navigate the negotiations successfully.

With over 8 million subscribers, YouTube TV has become a staple in the streaming world. The resolution with Paramount comes on the heels of a price increase in January, demonstrating the evolving landscape of streaming services and content delivery models.

As a reminder, CBS News is under the umbrella of Paramount Global, the parent company of Paramount+, the streaming service associated with Paramount channels on YouTube TV.
