Disney Raises Subscription Prices in Anticipation of ESPN Launch

Disney+ is making some changes Down Under! Starting next month, Australian subscribers will see a price hike for their Disney+ subscriptions. The Standard plan will increase from $13.99 to $15.99 per month, while the Premium plan, which includes 4k UHD and HDR video, will rise from $17.99 to $20.99 per month. Annual subscriptions will also go up from $179.99 to $209.99. If you’re a subscriber, keep an eye out for an email from Disney letting you know about these changes, and remember – if you want to cancel your subscription, you’ll need to do so before March 28th, 2025.

This isn’t the first time Disney+ has raised its prices in Australia. The service started at $8.99 per month and has gradually increased over the years, with the introduction of Star in 2021 and more recently with the split into Standard and Premium tiers. The Standard plan now offers two streams at up to 1080p resolution and 5.1 audio, while the Premium plan gives you four streams and 4k HDR and Dolby Atmos.

Disney is also cracking down on password sharing. Last year, they let Australian users know that sharing accounts with people outside their household could come with additional charges. If you want to add an extra member to your account, it will cost $7.99 per month.

The changes come as Disney prepares to bring ESPN content to its Australian subscribers. Live local and US basketball and American football, along with 24/7 channels, will soon be available on all Disney+ plans. With other streaming services like Netflix, Warner Bros. Discovery, and even British sports streaming platform DAZN Group making moves in the market, it’s an exciting time for streaming enthusiasts.
