Disney+ Prices Increase in Australia & New Zealand Before ESPN Launch
Disney fans in Australia and New Zealand, get ready for a change! Disney+ has announced a price increase for subscribers in these regions, set to take effect on February 19th, 2025. This shift comes as Disney+ continues to offer a wide range of branded content, including exclusive Originals, iconic series, sports programming, and captivating storytelling.
The price hike coincides with the exciting news that an ESPN hub will be added to Disney+ later in the year. This new addition will bring over 10,000 hours of live sports action to the platform, featuring popular shows like SportsCenter, The Pat McAfee Show, NBA Today, and First Take, along with live events, replays, and ESPN’s acclaimed 30 for 30 films.
For current Disney+ subscribers, the price increase will vary depending on the tier you are subscribed to. The Standard tier will see a $2 monthly increase, while the Premium tier will go up by $3 per month. Annual subscriptions will also reflect these changes, resulting in a $20 yearly increase for the Standard tier and a $30 yearly increase for the Premium tier.
Notifications about the updated pricing will be sent out to current subscribers, with the changes taking effect on March 26th, 2025. For new subscribers starting on February 19th, 2025, the prices in Australian and New Zealand dollars will be as follows:
– Standard Tier: $15.99/month in Australia and $16.99/month in New Zealand
– Premium Tier: $20.99/month in Australia and $21.99/month in New Zealand
While this price increase may come as a disappointment to some, the addition of ESPN content to Disney+ may make it more compelling for sports fans. It’s all part of Disney’s efforts to make Disney+ a profitable platform, with price adjustments being a regular occurrence in recent years. Despite the increase, Australian subscribers will still be getting a deal compared to US pricing when factoring in access to Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ content in one place.
