Harry Potter TV Series: John Lithgow Rumored to Join Cast
Get ready, Harry Potter fans, because a new TV series based on the beloved books is on its way! Warner Bros Discovery made the big announcement back in April 2023, and now, the show is set to premiere on HBO Max. Exciting, right? During a recent presentation in London, an HBO executive spilled some details about what we can expect from the series.
One of the biggest questions on everyone’s minds is whether J.K. Rowling, the mastermind behind the wizarding world, is involved in the project. The answer is yes – she’s on board as an executive producer. Despite the controversies surrounding her in recent years, HBO’s focus remains on bringing the magical world of Harry Potter to life on screen.
The show has already locked down its showrunner, Francesca Gardiner, known for her work on “Succession,” and experienced director Mark Mylod is set to helm the series. While Daniel Radcliffe, who played Harry Potter in the films, isn’t actively seeking a return to the role, rumors are swirling about potential cast members. Names like Sir Mark Rylance, Paapa Essiedu, and Cillian Murphy have been mentioned, with John Lithgow rumored to be close to signing on to play Professor Dumbledore.
Production is scheduled to start in mid-2025 at Warner Bros’ Leavesden Studios, where the original films were shot. As for the release date, we’ll have to wait until 2026 to dive back into the wizarding world. And get this – instead of seven seasons (one for each book), the series is planning for a 10-season arc. That means we could see some books split across multiple seasons, keeping us all on the edge of our seats.
So, Potterheads, mark your calendars and get your wands ready – the magic is coming back to our screens in a whole new way!
