Apple TV+ Welcomes Android and Google TV to Streaming Platform

Apple has finally extended an olive branch to Android and Google TV fans by launching a mobile app on Google Play. And this isn’t some half-hearted attempt—they’ve built the app from the ground up to provide Android users with a seamless and familiar experience. Now, you can subscribe to Apple TV+ and even get the MLS Season Pass right from your Android or Google TV device.
The new Apple TV app for Android comes with features like “Continue Watching” to pick up where you left off and “Watchlist” to keep track of shows you want to see in the future. Plus, you can stream over Wi-Fi or cellular and even download content to watch offline.
This move comes just in time for the upcoming Major League Soccer (MLS) season, starting on February 22. And if you’re a baseball fan, don’t fret—Apple TV+ also offers “Friday Night Baseball,” a weekly MLB double-header without those pesky regional broadcast restrictions.
The one downside for Android users is that they won’t be able to rent or buy content through the Apple in-app store—bummer, we know. But at least Apple has tailored the app to fit Android’s Material Design language.
While Apple doesn’t usually cater to Android users, this smart move could pay off big time. According to StatCounter, over 72% of mobile devices worldwide run on Android, compared to just over 27% on iOS. By including Android and Google TV in the mix, Apple could see a significant boost in streaming revenue.
