3 Intense Thrillers on Netflix: 2 Great Picks and 1 Miss
I recently had the chance to dive into three intense and gripping thrillers on Netflix, and boy, let me tell you, it was a rollercoaster of emotions. Out of the trio, two films had me absolutely hooked from start to finish, while the third one left me feeling a bit… let down.
First up, we have “Woman of the Hour” from 2023. Directed by the talented Anna Kendrick, who also stars in the film, this thriller is based on the bone-chilling true story of a young actress who unwittingly crosses paths with a serial killer on a dating game show. The story is told from a woman’s perspective, which adds an intriguing layer to the plot. While the film certainly kept me on the edge of my seat with its twists and turns, I couldn’t help but notice that the actors’ diction and cadence felt a bit off for a ’70s period piece. Regardless, “Woman of the Hour” is a refreshing take on a dark subject matter, and I applaud Kendrick for bringing this lesser-known story to the screen.
Next on my list was “The Guilty” from 2021, a gripping thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal as a troubled police officer turned 911 operator. The film takes you through a frantic 911 call from a woman named Emily, who has been kidnapped by her abusive children’s father. The plot is intense, and there are surprises around every corner. Gyllenhaal’s performance is top-notch, and Riley Keough shines as Emily. This one had me glued to the screen from start to finish.
Finally, there’s “Luther: The Fallen Sun” from 2023. As a long-time fan of Idris Elba, I was excited to dive into this film, but unfortunately, it didn’t quite hit the mark for me. As a continuation of the hit series “Luther,” I found myself struggling to connect with the storyline. While I appreciate Elba’s talent, this particular film just didn’t resonate with me the way I had hoped. Sometimes, even the best actors can’t salvage a lackluster script.
In the end, each of these thrillers offered a unique viewing experience, with some hitting the mark more than others. Whether you’re in the mood for a chilling true story, a high-stakes 911 call, or a continuation of a beloved series, there’s something for every thriller fan on Netflix. Sit back, grab some popcorn, and get ready for a wild ride through the world of intense cinema.
