Disney+ is jumping on the reboot trend with its latest project, a gender-swapped version of Holes. The original 2003 movie featured a star-studded cast, but now the story is getting a fresh take for the small screen.

Variety broke the news on January 7, 2025, that Disney+ has ordered a pilot for the new Holes series. While a pilot order is just the first step, fans are eager to see how this beloved story will be reimagined.

If the pilot gets picked up, the show will adapt Louis Sachar’s book, following the tale of a teenager wrongfully sent to a desert camp where mysterious holes are being dug. In this new version, the main character, Stanley Yelnats, will be gender-swapped into a teenage girl, adding an exciting twist to the classic story.

Behind the scenes, Alina Mankin, known for her work on popular shows like Katy Keene, Lodge 49, and The Mindy Project, will be writing and executive producing the reboot. The team also includes Yellowjackets producer Liz Phang as showrunner, along with Drew Goddard and Sarah Esberg as executive producers.

So far, no trailer or photos have been released for the Holes reboot, but as the project develops, we’ll keep you updated. Stay tuned for more news on this exciting new series!
