Professor Celis Discusses Netflix’s “100 Years of Solitude” on BBC Newshour
Professor Nadia Celis recently appeared on BBC Newshour to discuss the new Netflix adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez’s classic novel, “One Hundred Years of Solitude.” As a professor of Romance languages and literatures and Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx studies, Celis provided expert insights alongside Alex García López, the principal director of the TV adaptation. This interview took place the day before the show premiered on December 12, 2024, and you can listen to it at the end of the December 11 BBC Newshour, around the 45-minute mark.
In anticipation of the Netflix series’s release, Celis launched a bilingual podcast called “One Hundred Years of Solitude Together.” This podcast consists of eight episodes recorded in both English and Spanish. Celis explained, “Inspired by the imminent release of the Netflix adaptation of one of the most read and universal works of our time, the podcast takes readers of Gabriel García Márquez through the original context of One Hundred Years of Solitude, its main themes, and contemporary relevance.”
Celis expressed gratitude to the many generous supporters of her podcast, as she strove to provide a comprehensive and insightful look into the iconic novel.
