Woman Dies in Vehicle Crash in Columbus County: Latest Update

A tragic car crash near the Clarendon community in Columbus County, North Carolina has left a woman dead and two children injured. The North Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the incident occurred at approximately 7:45 a.m. on Monday morning on Peacock Road near Feed Mill Road.

The crash was caused by a Jeep driven by a 16-year-old traveling south on Peacock Road. The vehicle veered off the road to the right and then overcorrected, sending it into the other lane where it collided head-on with a 2010 Dodge car driven by Misty Cribb, 35, of Clarendon. Tragically, Cribb was pronounced dead at the scene, while two children in the car sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Novant New Hanover Regional Medical Center. The 5-year-old girl was later airlifted to Chapel Hill.

The driver of the Jeep suffered minor injuries and has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and driving left of center. Misty Cribb was a valued member of the Columbus County News team in Whiteville, where she worked with dedication and love.

Jefferson Weaver, the managing editor, shared fond memories of Cribb, describing her as full of energy, excitement, and love. He will always remember her contagious laughter and silly giggles that brightened everyone’s day.

Michael Myrie, co-founder of the Sheepdog Foundation Incorporation in Whiteville, expressed his shock and spoke of Cribb’s selfless dedication to helping others, especially children. Macyne Garrell, an account executive at Columbus County News, emphasized Cribb’s deep love for her family, particularly her children.

A Chicken Bog Plate fundraiser in memory of Misty Cribb is scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 25th, from 11 am to 2 pm. The plates will include chicken bog, green beans, and a roll for $10. It is a heartfelt way for the community to come together in support of Cribb’s family during this difficult time.
