Peacock Tests Mini-Games and Vertical Videos to Boost Engagement
Peacock is stepping up its game to make streaming more fun and engaging for users, especially those in the Gen Z crowd. The NBCU-owned streamer is testing out mini-games and vertical videos on its mobile app, with the goal of creating a welcoming environment for young viewers.
Some of the games you can look forward to include Daily Sort, Daily Swap, Predictions, What The, and Venn, which will be tied to Peacock programming. You’ll be able to make predictions about shows and come back later to see if you were right. Plus, there will be vertical video playlists featuring clips from Peacock shows to keep you entertained.
These features are currently being tested with select users, but a full rollout is expected this spring. Karen Kovacs, NBCU’s president of advertising and partnerships, mentioned at a CES panel that Peacock is focusing on gaming to engage Gen Z viewers early on. By offering a mix of games and exciting content, Peacock hopes to attract and retain a younger audience.
In addition to the gaming features, Peacock will also introduce other enhancements like the “Live in Browse” option, showing live events at the top of the app’s home page. Advertisers will have new opportunities to reach users through the platform, with potential for more engagement and interaction.
While Peacock has faced stiff competition in the streaming world, with 36 million subscribers as of October, the new features and partnerships aim to boost growth and profitability. By catering to the preferences of younger viewers and enhancing the overall viewing experience, Peacock is taking steps to stay ahead in the streaming game.
