It’s been a tough time for the St. Louis food scene lately, with a string of closures at the end of 2024 and the start of 2025. Taqueria Morita closed its doors last weekend, along with six other restaurants in the area. Here are the latest updates.

Daylight Donuts in Chesterfield announced on December 29 that it had been sold to the owners of K&J Donuts in O’Fallon. The new owners will continue the doughnut tradition at this location as the second spot for K&J.

The Reserve Restaurant & Lounge in Creve Coeur, which opened last year in a former Granite City Food & Brewery location, closed on December 31. Information about the closure is limited, but we’ll provide updates as more details become available.

In Da Loop, a pizzeria in the Delmar Loop area, served its final guests on January 1. Run by military veterans, this spot was known for wood-fired pizzas, wings, and other casual fare. The owners expressed their gratitude to customers for their support in an Instagram video announcing the closure.

Dado’s Cafe in St. Louis Hills, known for its Greek and Mediterranean classics like dolmades, will have its final service on January 12. The menu also featured American diner favorites, but fans have one more weekend to enjoy their favorite dishes.

U. City Grill, a beloved spot for diner fare and Korean specialties in the Loop area, seems to have closed. Calls to the restaurant have gone unanswered, and online listings now show it as permanently closed. Updates will be shared as more information is revealed.

The Peacock Loop Diner is the most recent closure, with owner Joe Edwards announcing that the 10-year-old restaurant will not renew its lease. Despite its unique interior and green certifications, the diner couldn’t sustain its momentum after struggles with food and service. Edwards hopes the iconic neon sign will remain in place and inspire a new, innovative business in the future.

The St. Louis food scene is always evolving, with new spots opening and beloved ones closing. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to follow the changes in our local dining landscape.
