Disney+ Orders Gender-Swapped ‘Holes’ TV Show Pilot for New Series
Hey there, did you hear the news about a new gender-swapped TV show pilot based on the beloved book Holes coming to Disney+? That’s right! The streamer has ordered a pilot for a Holes TV series, more than two decades after it was first made into a film. Back in 2003, Shia LaBeouf starred in the movie as Stanley Yelnats, the unfortunate boy sent to Camp Green Lake for a crime he didn’t commit.
The upcoming TV show will feature a reimagined storyline where a teenage girl is sent to a detention camp run by a ruthless Warden who forces the campers to dig holes for a mysterious purpose. Alina Mankin will be writing and executive producing the show, with Liz Phang as the showrunner and executive producer. Drew Goddard will also be an executive producer through Goddard Textiles, alongside Sarah Esberg.
Goddard shared with Variety that his mom, who is a schoolteacher, recommended the book Holes to him way back in the late ’90s, predicting it would become a phenomenon. It’s special for him to bring this adaptation full circle for his mom and her sixth-grade class.
We can’t wait to see how this new take on Holes unfolds on Disney+! Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project.
