Disney’s Hulu + Live TV and Fubo to Merge in Surprise Deal, Ending Venue Lawsuit

Disney recently announced a surprising merger with Fubo that will combine Hulu + Live TV with Fubo, creating one of the largest pay TV providers in the United States. This unexpected deal may pave the way for the Venu Sports streaming service to move forward. Disney will have a 70% ownership stake in the new entity, while Fubo’s current management team will continue to lead the operations.

With a total of 6.2 million subscribers, the newly merged Disney and Fubo service will become the second largest streaming pay TV provider, trailing only YouTube TV. As part of the agreement, Fubo will end its lawsuit against Venu Sports, the streaming joint venture between Disney, Fox Corp, and Warner Bros. Discovery. This move could clear the path for the long-awaited launch of Venu Sports. Both Disney and Fubo have expressed excitement about the collaboration, emphasizing the enhanced choice and flexibility that the merger will offer to consumers.

The new service from Disney and Fubo will not include the Hulu subscription service. Instead, Disney and Fubo will sign a new carriage agreement to develop a Sports & Broadcast service. This offering will showcase Disney’s sports and broadcast networks, including ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SECN, ACCN, ESPNEWS, and ESPN+.

After a tumultuous period involving legal disputes, this merger marks a positive turn for both companies. Last summer, Fubo filed a lawsuit against Disney, Fox Corp, and Warner Bros. Discovery, halting the anticipated launch of Venu Sports. With the resolution of this legal battle, the future looks bright for the streaming landscape. Stay tuned for updates as this groundbreaking partnership continues to unfold.
