DIMANCHE at Peacock Theatre by Compagnie Focus & Chaliwaté
Dimanche, a captivating production by Belgian companies Focus and Chaliwaté, is set to make its London premiere at the Peacock Theatre in the West End from Wednesday 29 January – Saturday 1 February 2025. Presented in association with MimeLondon, this unique performance blends puppetry, dance, and theatre for an unforgettable experience.
Set in a near future plagued by the effects of climate change, Dimanche follows the story of a family trying to uphold their traditions amidst environmental chaos. While a storm rages outside, the family attempts to carry on with their daily routine, turning a blind eye to the turmoil around them.
In a separate narrative, three wildlife reporters venture to the Arctic Circle in a bid to document the impending apocalypse. Equipped with minimal gear, they strive to capture footage of Earth’s last surviving species in the face of extinction.
Using a mix of practical effects, puppetry, video, and visual humor, Dimanche offers a poignant and humorous take on human resilience and determination to maintain normalcy amidst a collapsing world.
Having garnered international acclaim since its debut, Dimanche has been a hit at various events, including the 2024 Edinburgh International Festival. The collaborative efforts of Chaliwaté and Focus have created an innovative piece of visual theatre that continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
MimeLondon, a new initiative curated by Helen Lannaghan and Joseph Seelig, aims to showcase unconventional and thought-provoking work in the wake of the London International Mime Festival’s conclusion in 2023.
For those interested in a deeper discussion of the production, a British Sign Language interpreted post-show talk will be held on Thursday 30 January 2025.
