EPA Seeks Information on Peacock Death – Update

0

The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is seeking help from the Central Coast community following a troubling incident involving a peacock. A concerned community member reported a dead peacock on Coachwood Drive in Ourimbah on Thursday, January 2. The bird displayed symptoms that suggested possible poisoning, such as diarrhoea.
If anyone has any information about other peacocks or birds in the area that may have been affected, the EPA is asking them to reach out. Director Operations, David Gathercole, emphasized the seriousness of harming birds and urged the public to come forward with any relevant details.
Using pesticides to harm non-target animals is against the law under the Pesticides Act, and the EPA is conducting investigations in the local area. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the EPA through their 24/7 Environment Line at 131 555 or via email at info@epa.nsw.gov.au.
If you come across a sick or deceased bird, it’s best not to handle it yourself. Contact the WIRES 24/7 Rescue Call Centre at 1300 094 737 for assistance.
For media inquiries, you can get in touch with EPA MEDIA through Julia Bell at 0427 310 202 or the 24-hour Media Line at (02) 9995 6415, or email media@epa.nsw.gov.au. Let’s come together as a community to help protect our wildlife.
