natural bass roll-off but Technics has yet to specify a -3dB point. There’s a choice of three ‘Dinamica’ fabric finishes: Silk Grey, Charcoal Black, or Terracotta Brown. The price for a pair of these speakers is US$2999 or €2499.

Looking deeper into the construction of the SC-CX700, we find that the Dinamica™️ fabric wrap comes from Asahi Kasei, the same company that makes AKM DAC chips and fabrics for the car industry. This ‘soft-suede’-like material wraps an MDF cabinet divided into front and rear chambers for drivers and streaming electronics amplifiers. Vibration insulation is achieved through an internal divider and an 8mm air gap, resulting in what Technics calls ‘Acoustic Solitude Construction’.

The amplification in each speaker is digital rather than Class A/B or Class D. The speakers utilize a PWM signal switching directly to the output devices without the need for an interceding DAC stage. A ‘JENO Engine’ jitter corrects the PWM signal before applying 70 Watts of amplification to the mid/bass driver and 30 Watts to the coaxially aligned ‘ring’ tweeter.

The SC-CX700 features a ring tweeter that offers faster response times than traditional dome tweeters, thanks to its lower weight. The output of the ring tweeter is phase-corrected by a ‘Linear Phase Equalizer’ to ensure smooth hand-off to the waveguiding mid/bass driver. The two drivers are crossed over in DSP with different slope orders for each driver.

To minimize cabinet talk, Technics uses ‘Balanced Driver Mounting Architecture’ to hold the drivers in place. The bass reflex port, known as ‘Smooth Flow’, is strategically designed for optimal air movement at its interior input location.

One standout feature of the SC-CX700 is its HDMI ARC input, which reduces unwanted noise from video signals by outputting them at a lower rate. This ensures low-load operation between transmitting/receiving devices and prevents noise generation.

Additional components of the SC-CX700 include an MM phono stage built with discrete components, a plastic infrared remote control, and eco-friendly packaging free from Styrofoam.

While a direct comparison with KEF’s LS50 Wireless II isn’t possible, we plan to assess the SC-CX700 alongside the Buchardt A500 and PSB Alpha iQ active loudspeakers. Stay tuned for our video review coming in February to learn more about Technics’ SC-CX700 active streaming loudspeakers.
