Jeff Peacock Launches Walking Tour of CD 1 from Century – Florida Politics
Jeff Peacock, a Republican congressional candidate in Florida’s 1st Congressional District, is embarking on a unique campaign strategy that harkens back to Democrat Lawton Chiles’ historic walk in 1970. On Friday, Peacock will kick off a walking tour of the district, starting at a Whataburger in Century at 9:15 a.m. and aiming to visit all key areas in the Panhandle region over the next 25 days. His first stop will be Pam’s Country Kitchen in Jay at 11 a.m. that same day.
With aspirations to succeed former U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz, Peacock plans to engage with voters along the way and highlight his own working-class background. As a teacher at Navarre High School and a graduate of Century High School, Peacock emphasizes that he’s not a career politician seeking advancement, but rather a representative who wants to amplify the voices of everyday residents in Washington.
Drawing inspiration from Lawton Chiles’ iconic walking tour, Peacock hopes to bring a personal touch to the Republican Primary in 2025. By following in the footsteps of “Walkin’ Lawton,” who trekked over 1,000 miles across Florida, Peacock aims to connect with constituents in all corners of the district, whether rural or urban.
The upcoming GOP primary on Jan. 28 will be a crucial moment in the race, setting the stage for an April 1 Special General Election. Situated in the conservative stronghold of the Panhandle with Pensacola as its center, CD 1 boasts a heavily Republican-leaning voter base, with over half registered as Republicans. Peacock’s journey across the district reflects his commitment to representing all constituents, regardless of their background or location.
By embracing this unique campaign approach, Jeff Peacock is aiming to make a lasting impact in the Republican primary and beyond, promising to be a congressman for all the people of Florida’s 1st Congressional District.
