Streaming your favorite movies and TV shows just got a little more expensive. Netflix has announced a price increase for its standard and premium plans in the US. The standard plan, which allows for two simultaneous streams and HD quality, will now cost $13.99 per month, up from $12.99. Meanwhile, the premium plan, offering four simultaneous streams and 4K Ultra HD quality, has gone up to $17.99 per month from $15.99.
If you’re on the basic plan, which includes one stream and standard definition, there’s no change–it’s still $8.99 per month. Current subscribers will see the updated prices on their next billing cycle, while new subscribers will pay the new rates immediately.
This is the first price hike from Netflix in the US since January 2019, but the streaming platform’s fourth overall. The decision comes as Netflix continues to invest in creating original content and maintaining its place as one of the top streaming services available.
While no one likes to pay more, it’s important to remember that creating and licensing high-quality content isn’t cheap. As the streaming landscape evolves, price increases like these are almost inevitable. So, if Netflix is still your go-to for entertainment, you’ll have to decide if the additional cost is worth it.
