James Gunn Explains Reasons for Postponement of “The Batman 2” to 2027
The Batman 2” will see Reeves once again engaged in directing and will connect directly to the events of the previous film, as well as those explored in the recent HBO Max television series “The Penguin”.
The announcement of the further delay in the release date was dropped just before the start of the new year, explaining the need to follow the appropriate work process within the necessary time margins. With work scheduled to start immediately after the summer, completing both the shooting cycle and the creation of special effects within the previous forecasts would have been unlikely. As a result, the film has been pushed to 2027 in the Warner catalog releases.
James Gunn, co-head of the production cycle of the next DC Universe, further clarified the reasons for the delay. In response to fan concerns, he explained that it is quite common to have a gap of 5 years or more between sequels. Gunn emphasized that the commitment is to make the best movie possible and that the timeline for completing a script and pre-production, shooting, and post-production of a big film is approximately two years.
Following the announcement of the delay, director Andy Muschietti provided an update on “Batman: The Brave and the Bold”, the next chapter in the adventures of the iconic superhero. This film will directly follow the developments of the DC Universe and will run in parallel with the Reeves film series. Muschietti is focusing on another project before returning to this film, indicating a postponement.
There are speculations that the delays for both films may not be coincidental and could indicate a possible connection between the two narrative lines. Signals suggest that the studios may be trying to integrate the Reeves film cycle into the new DCU, moving “The Batman 2” from the “Elsewords” category towards a more interconnected DC Universe.
