Director Discusses Revamping ‘Section 31’ Series for Potential Expansion
The highly anticipated Star Trek: Section 31 streaming movie is set to premiere on Paramount+ in January and will be available on SkyShowtime in February. The project has been in development since 2019 and has gone through several changes along the way. Initially planned as a spin-off of Star Trek: Discovery, the series faced delays as other Trek projects moved forward. However, the persistence of executive producer Alex Kurtzman and writer Craig Sweeny kept the project alive.
Director Olatunde Osunsanmi shared that the original pilot for the series underwent significant retooling, with only a few elements remaining from the initial concept. The movie will focus on the character of Philippa Georgiou, played by Michelle Yeoh, and introduce a new character named Alok Sahar, portrayed by Omari Hardwick. The synopsis teases a mission outside the Federation and Georgiou confronting her past sins.
While fans eagerly await the premiere of Star Trek: Section 31, there is also speculation about the potential for more streaming movies within the Star Trek universe. Osunsanmi expressed optimism about the future of the franchise in the streaming format, hinting at the possibility of more stories expanding the Trek universe beyond traditional television series.
Star Trek: Section 31 will debut on January 24, 2025, on Paramount+ in the U.S. and select international markets, followed by a release on SkyShowtime in Europe on February 7. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting addition to the Star Trek Universe.
