10-Month-Old Child Brought to ER, Arrest Made for Injury to a Child in Brownwood

Following an incident on Monday, December 30, 2024, a 10-month-old child was brought to the ER at Hendrick Medical Center in Brownwood with a serious head injury. The child, who was unresponsive, was stabilized with CPR and then flown to Cooks Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth for further treatment.

In response to the situation, the Brownwood Police Department began investigating the incident as a case of ‘Injury to a Child.’ Detectives worked with Child Protective Services and visited a residence in south Brownwood where they met the child’s mother and her boyfriend, Steven Wayne Peacock Jr., aged 22. Peacock admitted to his involvement in the abuse during an interview at the Brownwood Law Enforcement Center and was subsequently arrested for Injury to a Child, as well as for two Brownwood Municipal Court warrants.

Furthermore, as part of their ongoing investigation, Child Protective Services removed three other children under the age of 10 from the household at around 1:45 p.m. As this remains an active case, more details may emerge as the investigation progresses.
