Vince Russo Talks About WWE Raw’s Debut on Netflix
Former WWE creative writer Vince Russo recently shared his thoughts on the buzz surrounding the upcoming Netflix premiere of “WWE Raw” on January 6. Russo, speaking with “Sportskeeda WrestleBinge,” cast doubt on whether the show would live up to the expectations set by Paul “Triple H” Levesque at WWE’s Netflix Kickoff event. Russo specifically called into question the claim that the January 6 “Raw” would have a “mini WrestleMania” vibe.
Expressing his skepticism, Russo humorously stated, “I don’t buy any of Triple H’s hype, really. I mean, comparing this to the Attitude Era? Saturday Night’s Main Event fell flat. I take everything he says with a grain of salt. … I don’t put much stock in Tony Khan’s words either. It’s all talk, man. It’s just chatter and more talk. I stopped taking their words seriously a long time ago.”
Russo noted that if the event does feel like a “mini WrestleMania,” it might only resonate with WWE’s die-hard fans. Stepping away from WWE since a brief return in 2002 post-WCW, Russo reportedly declined an advisory position from his former company after his initial pitch was rejected and opted to join TNA instead.
Despite Russo’s skepticism, WWE has lined up a series of high-profile matches and appearances to mark their new broadcast partnership. Fans can look forward to Roman Reigns taking on his Bloodline rival, Solo Sikoa, in a Tribal Combat Match. The long-brewing face-off between CM Punk and Seth Rollins is also on the card. Additionally, Logan Paul is slated to make his return post-SummerSlam, potentially setting up a challenge to GUNTHER for the World Heavyweight Championship. John Cena will kick off his 2025 retirement tour on the show, although whether he will compete or address the audience remains unknown as his opponent has not been revealed yet.
